In 1946 the
club started the famous Scarborough Road Races on Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough,
and in 1947 £7,000 was raised to widen the track to 5 metres
to enable it to obtain an international classification from the A.C.U.
The motorclub organised the Races throughout their heyday in the 1950s, 60s
and 70s with memorable rides by Aces like Geoff Duke, Phil Read and Barry Sheen
to mention just a few.

The club flourished in the
heyday of the motorcycle, and as speeds increased, hence lap record times
dropped, and captured the imagination of the public. Visitor numbers increased
beyond imagination and the Oliver's Mount track became one of the spectators
(and indeed the riders') favourites.
The organisation on
the Mount was later merged with the Auto 66 Club and North East Racing to form
the Scarborough Racing Combine. The S.D.M.C. have since left the combine and
now, the operation on Oliver’s Mount is run solely by the Auto 66 Club.
